An Immigration Psychological Evaluation can play an important role in strengthening your immigration case. It helps professionally document your emotional and psychological experiences, which may improve the chances of a successful outcome. At Pathway to Daisies Counseling, we are committed to providing thorough, compassionate, and comprehensive evaluations.
Connect
We begin with a free consultation to make sure we are a good fit. We also speak with the attorney to understand the case needs and gather any important information.
Interviews
Next, we will schedule and complete two telehealth interviews lasting 60–90 minutes each. During these sessions, we talk about your story and discuss important personal experiences. The assessment will include structured interviews, psychological questionnaires, and observational measures.
Evaluation
After the interviews, the evaluation is completed within 2–4 weeks. The final 10–15 page report includes the client’s psychological history, trauma experiences, current mental health concerns, and clinical prognosis. Once completed, the report is shared with both the client and the attorney.
An immigration psychological evaluation is an assessment completed by a licensed mental health professional to document emotional and psychological factors related to an immigration case. These evaluations are often requested by an attorney and may help support certain immigration applications. The evaluation focuses on mental health concerns and does not provide legal advice or determine the outcome of a case.
Immigration evaluations are commonly used for hardship waivers, asylum cases, U visas, T visas, VAWA, and cancellation of removal petitions. Your attorney can help determine whether an evaluation would be beneficial for your case. If you are unsure, we recommend speaking with your immigration attorney before scheduling to ensure the evaluation meets your legal needs.
The evaluation process typically includes one or two interviews, questions about your background and experiences, and standardized mental health assessments when appropriate. During the interviews, we explore your personal history, emotional well-being, as well as the psychological impact of your immigration-related experiences. The process may include structured interviews, clinical observations, and psychological questionnaires to help prepare a detailed and accurate report.
Most evaluations are completed over one or two sessions, depending on the complexity of the case and scheduling availability. After all information is gathered, the written report is typically completed within 2–4 weeks and shared with both the client and the attorney. Timelines and expectations are discussed clearly before beginning the process.
No. We do not provide legal advice or guarantee immigration outcomes. The evaluator’s role is to provide a professional mental health assessment. All legal decisions are made by immigration authorities with guidance from your attorney.
Yes. Confidentiality is taken seriously. Your information is shared only with your consent, typically with your attorney. The limits of confidentiality are reviewed before the evaluation begins. The completed report is prepared specifically for your legal case and is not sent directly to immigration authorities by the evaluator.
While the evaluation process may feel supportive, it is different from therapy. The purpose is to assess and document mental health concerns rather than provide ongoing treatment. However, the evaluation is conducted with compassion, respect, and sensitivity, especially when discussing difficult or traumatic experiences. Referrals for ongoing support can be provided if needed.
It is common to feel nervous or emotional during an immigration evaluation, especially when discussing past trauma or difficult experiences. You are encouraged to move at a pace that feels manageable, take breaks when needed, and ask questions throughout the process. Your comfort and emotional safety are prioritized at all times.
To prepare for your evaluation, it may be helpful to gather and share important documents (such as medical records, legal paperwork, or other evidence related to your case), review details about your case, and speak openly about your experiences and mental health concerns. Many clients also find it helpful to seek support from a trusted friend, counselor, or attorney before the appointment.
Evaluations are available in English and Spanish. For other languages, virtual interpreters may be used. Due to the sensitive nature of the evaluation, family members or friends may not serve as interpreters, although they are welcome to attend for emotional support if appropriate.
